credit monitoring — compare services
Credit Karma offers free monitoring. Is their monitoring service as good as the companies that charge you monthly fees?
Terry Says
All monitoring services use a slightly different algorithm. Credit Karma has done a great job of making credit information available free to consumers, so I would trust their monitoring. However, they are just scanning to make sure they see it if your SS number is "in play." And I'm not sure they offer help in "restoring" your credit (time, contacts, etc) if it is compromised. That's a detail to check on with any monitoring service. Even better -- if you don't need to "use" your credit information -- buying a car, refinancing a house, applying for a job, buying life insurance, etc -- as well as opening new credit card accounts, then why not consider a freeze?
