Ask Terry Questions dividend added to tax base

dividend added to tax base

By Terry Savage on March 03, 2017 | Wild Card

I have, in the past, added the taxes I have paid to my original cost basis. I have a self directed Merrill Edge account which automatically reinvests my dividends. Do I still add the taxes paid to the currant value associated with the cost basis?

You need some specific tax advice.  There is no provision for adding taxes paid on dividends back into your cost base on a stock!  Perhaps you are thinking of reinvested dividends, which do impact your cost base.  Please get professional tax advice on this for your own situation.
