Equifax breach and checking/saving accounts?

By Terry Savage on September 27, 2017 |

Could the Equifax breach harm my checking and saving accounts? How can I protect them?

Terry Says

It is highly unlikely that anyone could create a thorough enough identity to pilfer your checking and savings accounts, without having your debit card and PIN.  And you are 100 percent protected against fraudulent withdrawals from your accounts.  So rest easy. And check your account balances weekly online to report anything unusual. The concern with the Equifax breach is that someone could establish a new account in your name, using the basic info that was stolen.  That's why it makes sense to freeze your credit report.
