Find a fee only Financial advisor

By Terry Savage on March 02, 2018 | Financial Planning / Retirement

Hi Terry - I am looking for a "fee only Financial Adivsor" in my area. I live in San Marcos, CA 92078 and would like to find a competent advisor as I move into my 60's.... Thank you

The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (www.NAPFA.org) is the registry of fee-only financial advisors.  You can search by geographic area, and should definitely set up a free first appointment with several before making a decision.  These advisors should agree to sign the Fiduciary Pledge -- that they will fully disclose all fees and commissions, and put your interests ahead of their own.  Ask for references of people in your situation - nearing retirement.  And call to check those references.  (You'd do that for a babysitter -- well, they are babysitting your financial future!)  For more info on what to expect, what to ask, what a good advisor should promise, go to www.campaignforinvestors.org.  There you can also do a background check on any financial professional.
