Selling a House Now

By Terry Savage on December 17, 2015 | Housing / Real Estate

Hi Terry,

I just heard your segment on 720AM in Chicago and I have a question that I hope you can help me with. My family is selling our house and have not had a good luck of getting any offers on the property. It has been on a market since September of this year. Would you recommend to take the listing off for the quieter winter time or keep it until the market picks up in the spring? We appreciate your advice.

Thank you!
Julia

Terry Says:  Of course, a lot depends on the circumstances — the location, the relative value of the house compared to the neighborhood, and the actual pricing of the house.  Instead of dropping the listing (which means you won’t get any offers!) why don’t you take a look at which houses in your area are selling, and contact the most successful broker and give him/her the listing.  And  be sure to listen to that broker’s suggestions about what you can do to make the house sell faster — whether lowering the price, or painting or adding new carpet, or just “staging” the house to present its best features.
