How useful is plancompare.medicare.gov?

By Terry Savage on November 06, 2017 | Insurance & Annuities

The analysis from this this site is quite an eye opener. If it is to be believed it will save me over 6K in drug prescription costs next year. But, how reliable is it? It anticipates my Xarelto will not be covered but in fact it is covered by a variance. It does not indicate my current pharmacy will be considered "out of network", but my plan provider indicates they will no longer deal with my pharmacy. While indicating my costs will be 6K higher, the site rates my current provider 4.5 stars versus 3.5 stars for their leading competitor. Has anyone considered the accuracy of plancompare.medicare.gov?

Ha -- that's a good question! The Plan Compare tool at Medicare.gov should be the most up-to-date way to compare drug prices, tiers, pharmacies, etc.  But if you want some personalized guidance on using the information, I would suggest going to www.eHealthMedicare.gov.  You can either use their tool, or call them for help. They are very knowledgeable, and do not get a commission for recommending one plan over another.  Go to the site, try it, then call them at 888-296-0117. I'll be interested to know if there was, indeed an error on the government site, so please do post again when you get it figured out!
