Pending Retirement with 401k in mind.

By Terry Savage on September 11, 2017 | Investments

I am 60, possibly retiring between 68 and 70. What is the best investment strategy now, for my 401k, do not wish to lose too much of the capital. How best to protect against a downturn in the market.

Terry Says

The ONLY to protect against a downturn in your 401(k) plan is to switch half or more of your investments to the safest alternative -- either the money market option or something similar. The reason I don't suggest moving ALL of it to safety is that you will likely live another 25 years, so you still need some growth. Having so much cash though, will let you stay calm even through the next downturn.
