Roth IRA

By Terry Savage on January 25, 2016 | Financial Planning / Retirement

Yes Terry, I am a retired 61 year old single male with a full postal pension and need to know if it is still advisable to fund a Roth IRA, when I do not really need it?

Terry Says:  First of all,  you can only “fund” an IRA (any type of IRA) with earned income, not from a pension!  Are you still working at another job?  If so, it might make sense to open a ROTH IRA, and contribute to it.   You don’t get a deduction, but the money will grow tax free –and it might come in handy a decade from now when you are fully retired.  But if you are just living on your pension, you can’t open an IRA anyway so don’t worry about it!
