Bond funds in an IRA

By Terry Savage on March 20, 2020 | Investments

Hi Terry –
Thanks for the ‘Bond 101’ lesson. You say in your column “Please do not own bonds”. By that, do you mean selling bond funds now that are currently in one’s IRA?

Terry Says

Well, you are a few days late! Check the NAV or market price of your bond fund. You have already lost at least 10-15% — or even more depending on the quality of the bonds in the fund. I don’t think that the economy will get better quickly, and I do fear (long-term) inflation from all this money printing. I was trying to get my readers out before the ordinary investor figured it out. Depending on your situation, I think it is not too late to sell at least part of this position.
Please, though, read the disclaimer posted on my website this morning.
