Market-Linked Investments, commonly know as Structured Investments
What are your thoughts on Market-Linked Investments in today’s economy? Our adviser is asking us to sign paperwork so he has it on hand if he thinks he might want to use this type of investment. He said he would call prior to actually making that investment.
Terry Says
Please DON’T DO THAT! The “advisor” will get a big commission and you will get a product you don’t understand that is based on derivatives and has limited liquidity (the chance to get out)! I can hardly think of a worse investment at this time!
If you want to know what you’d be getting into, read this article on structured products from Investopedia.
NEVER give ANYONE permission to do anything with your account “in the future” that you don’t understand! If I were you, I would immediately MOVE that account to Fidelity, Vanguard or Schwab. If it’s an IRA, you’ll need them to handle the rollover to avoid taxes. If it’s not an IRA, then just call them and they will handle the move of your entire account, and will give you some basic advice about asset allocation based on your situation.
