Amended Tax return from a Dependent to Single
My 24 yr old daughter amended her tax return to file as “single” since i won’t be claiming her as a dependent on my 2019 return. She changed her return but didn’t receive any additional refund? She made less than 12,000 last year. Wouldn’t she receive an additional amount since she changed her status from being a dependent to single?

I don’t think so. As an individual she is entitled to the $12,200 standard exemption for a single filer. Assuming she isn’t entitled to any other credits the refund amount wouldn’t change. But she will be entitled to get a $1200 stimulus check, whenever they get around to it! Make sure she has her current refund direct-deposited because it will come more quickly — and that’s where the stimulus check will arrive.
