IDES and Unemployment Disrespect

By Terry Savage on May 29, 2020 | Wild Card

My name is Mark Torres and I am currently on intermittent furlough as many Americans and residents in the state of Illinois are. I have been attempting to call to get my unemployment claim situated. Yesterday, after 4 hours, I was able to get a hold of someone via telephone. I wish I could recall her name as she was incredibly rude to me, but I was just happy to finally speak to a person over the phone. I told her my situation, she immediately said it was my fault and said I should have viewed an orientation online, said sorry sarcastically, and then hung up on me.

I have never felt so disrespected and disheartened in my life. I’m struggling like many fellow Illinois residents are. I understand there is an abundance of phone calls and they are trying to handle the abundance of calls to the best of their ability. I just wish the person taking the phone calls on the other line would show some sense of respect and empathy for fellow residents. Have you heard anything about an online orientation for unemployment claims? I feel as the system is completely unorganized online and I am truly disheartened by this whole situation. Thank you for your time if you read this.

I have read it. I am posting it. AND, little good that it will do, I am forwarding it (with your email address) to my contact at IDES. Surely this deserves not only an apology — but an expedited unemployment benefit. Please let me know if this does any good. And no, I have never heard anyone talk about requiring viewing an online orientation!
