medicare enrollment for Feb birthday
I will be turning 65 on February 27th. I am not collecting social security yet. If I am understanding the Medicare enrollment period options, I would do best to wait till the 1st of February to enroll in Medicare options A & B as opposed to enrolling any earlier. From what I am understanding, I would be enrolled the 1st of March with Medicare by doing it this way. This way my 1st payment due would be March 25th. If I enroll any sooner , my coverage would start the 1st of February and essentially I would be billed for the whole month. My company sponsored health care plan covers me to the end of the month I turn 65, so I wouldn’t miss coverage till the end of the month. If you could please verify this for me, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to answer.

Don’t be too cute — this decision has lifetime implications. Enroll NOW — and schedule your start date on your birthday. Same thing with picking supplement. Get the most comprehensive plan — Plan F — now, while you can without medical underwriting. You can get help with that at eHealthMedicare.com. And go to Medicare.gov to sign up for Part D — drugs — even though you may not currently take prescription meds.
So what if they overlap for a month. Get this done NOW! And schedule coverage to start on your birthday. Even a few days gap in coverage could be a disaster — creating a pre-existing condition or uncovered expenses.
