Social security for spouse
My wife was able to take social security equal to half of mine when she turned 66. She will be 70 next June. When should she change to her own social security? I have seen at 70 and at 70 1/2. How is this done?

This works only if she was born before Jan 1, 1954 –AND if you were already taking YOUR SS when she started taking her spousal benefits.
Now, she should wait to take hers until the month AFTER she turns 70. Don’t fall for it if SS offers her a few months of checks “in advance” if she starts just before 70!! As Laurence Kotlikoff, author of Money Magic says, that’s a scam being perpetrated by SS!
