Ask Terry Questions RMDs and QCDs

RMDs and QCDs

By Terry Savage on June 11, 2022 | Financial Planning / Retirement

Using my RMD, I want to take a qualified charitable distribution to donate to a capital campaign. Is this a good time to take it? Like everyone else, my investments have gone down. Is it best to take money out when one’s investments are declining or increasing? Should I take now or wait? I realize they may go down further so this could be a good time? Thank you!

Terry Says

Well, it’s always better to take a non-taxable withdrawal when the market value is high! You get more bang for your buck. But who knows if the market will be higher or lower by year end?!
