QCD

By Terry Savage on November 21, 2022 | Financial Planning / Retirement

Tried this several times but won’t go through. Giving it one last shot. I’m 71 and sending money to QCD charities (501c3) through my IRA checkbook. Just read recently from your fellow Tribune Sunday columnist that it has to come directly from Schwab. That’s not how my accountant and I understand it. And having trouble getting clarification. Please help! Thanks! ma

If you’re using your IRA checkbook, the money IS coming directly from your IRA as a Qualified Charitable Distribution! And you can give up to $100,000 annually and use those gifts to offset your RMD.
Double check with Schwab to make sure they are handling these checks as eligible for QCD. And ask them to send that to you in an email, which you will keep!!
