Ask Terry Questions moving retirement account from past employer

moving retirement account from past employer

By Terry Savage on January 18, 2023 | Financial Planning / Retirement

It will be 3 years since I left my old company and I’m ready to move on. My current holdings are in bonds and equities but CANNOT be transferred in kind. I assume after the fund is liquidated, my old company will send me a check in which I will open an account at another institution and do this within the 60 day rule to avoid taxes. Is that correct?

NO NO NO! Read this! Do NOT take a check!
