Ask Terry Questions I-Bond or Roth

I-Bond or Roth

By Terry Savage on April 26, 2023 | Financial Planning / Retirement

Hi Terry,

Love you so much and your advice. I listen on WGN, you are awesome. I’m 56, going to retire at 62. I purchased an I-Bond last May based on your advice. I was going to get another this May but now I’m wondering – should I take that $10,000 and get an I-Bond or a Roth? I don’t plan on touching the money until I’m 62. Thoughts? Thanks so much!!

It’s hard to advise without knowing what other investments you have, and what savings for retirement. But I’d suggest the Roth IRA. Invest conservatively, but in stocks. I suggest an Equity/Income Fund, which you can find at T Rowe Price or Vanguard, so open your Roth IRA there.

That way, you’ll have some money in “chicken money” I-bonds, and some offering growth.
