Part D IRMAA
Social security is charging me Part D IRMAA but I am not enrolled in Part D. I have a Medicare Advantage Plan through my previous employer that offers comparable (or better) prescription drug coverage. Can social security insist on charging me Part D IRMAA? Thank you!

Sadly, yes. If you’re in an Advantage plan, but subject to IRMAA, you still have to pay the higher premium for both Part B and Part D. Those on Medicare Advantage still need to pay Part B premiums, and most Medicare Advantage plans also include Part D coverage. If you’re on a Medicare Advantage plan with Part D coverage, you’ll still have to pay IRMAA charges for both Part B and Part D.
