Ask Terry Questions Social Security Fairness Act

Social Security Fairness Act

By Terry Savage on February 06, 2025 | Social Security

I was wondering if you might know when the Social Security payments will be adjusted, and is this something that the current administration can reverse? I am a retired special ed teacher (20 years of service in Illinois) who worked in the private sector for 25 years prior to that, paying into Social Security. I believe about $500 was taken from my monthly SS check due to the windfall rule, leaving me with $800. I could sure use the increase. Thanks for your help. I really enjoy listening to you on WGN!

Terry Says

Well, I would have always said that since Congress passed the law, no administration could just “reverse” it — Then again, Congress outlawed TikTok and by administrative decision it is still around!
SS does not have a new Commissioner yet. They tell me they are “working on” making the adjustments. But it won’t be easy, so we will just have to wait and see!
