Social security check in???
My husband and I are both receiving social security. Are we going to have to go to an SS business office to verify who we are and that we are entitled to continue receiving our payments? I receive spousal benefits as I was a teacher and receive TRS benefits. Now supposedly teachers, if they have enough quarters, can receive SS. I contributed, and still am contributing, for about 36 years. Can I receive SS for my own contributions?
The main question though is about the new verification issue.
Thank you for any help you can give us.

This has all been very confusing — and perhaps intentionally so. There is no need to go to a SS office to do anything if you are currently receiving benefits. Period.
Those who need to first apply for benefits, or change bank accounts, etc will no longer be able to do that over the phone. Those things must be done in person at an SS office (many are in process of being closed) or online.
Since you could now receive benefits on your own record (without the WEP), which might be better than your reduced spousal benefit, you might have to register for them online at SSA.gov. And to create an “account” called a “mySocialSecurity.gov” account, you’ll need to create an identity at login.gov. Go to SSA.gov and click on the box on the top right, asking if you want to create an account. It will have all the directions.
BUT FIRST, do check to see what your correct and best benefit choice is BEFORE dealing with SS! It will put you a step ahead of the game. Go to www.MaximizeMySocialSecurity.com and pay the $49 to run the numbers securely, using your SS and your spouses SS to see what you should be asking for!
