Ask Terry Questions Treasuries vs. CDs

Treasuries vs. CDs

By Terry Savage on April 22, 2025 | Chicken Money

Hello Terry! I am 63 years old and retired with a comfortable pension. At this stage of the game, I have about half of my money in treasuries (at Vanguard) and CDs (at various banks). The rest is in ETFs and individual stocks. My treasuries are maturing in the very near future and I am wondering if I should continue investing in treasuries or move to CDs? WIth everything that is going on with China, I am a bit unsure about treasuries. Your thoughts? Thank you!

Terry Says

if the U.S. government can’t sell treasuries, it can’t guarantee CDs! There is basically NO distinction between the govt guaranteeing bank deposits and guaranteeing payment of its own borrowings!
