savings bond value calculation
Hi Terry,
Do you know why the value of EE savings bond has dropped? In May I cashed a $100 bond from May 1995 and received $164.12. Now, I want to cash another $100 bond from June 1995 and it’s only worth $123.56. When I check the number of the bond from May in the bond value calculator it’s also down to $123.56. What’s going on?
Terry Says
That’s likely because you purchased the bonds at different times, so they carried a slightly different interest rate — credited over the years.
Did you use the savings bond calculator to get the true value of the bonds before you cashed them in?

I’m assuming that you sent them to Treasury to cash them in. If not, did the bank charge a fee for this service?
