WEP/GPO
72 years old, retired in 2004 after being firefighter for 28 years where I did not pay into SS. My wife is 66 and retired and receiving SS and pension from State. She did pay into SS. Will I qualify for WEP-GPO? I have not been contacted at all, except that I may qualify for spousal benefits, which were denied. I would greatly appreciate your direction. Thank you.

You won’t receive a WEP adjustment on your own record if you did not pay into the system. But now you may receive a spousal benefit. First stop is MaximizeMySocialSecurity.com to calculate the amount you should be receiving — since SS gets it wrong regularly. Then contact them and apply for benefits, knowing what you should receive.
