Amended Tax Return
I made a mistake on my original tax return by answering the question about the RMD amount incorrectly. I realized it almost immediately after I had filed. I waited until I received the refund from the IRS. Then I filed an amended return, which was received and processed. I received an answer in the mail a couple of weeks ago that they disagreed with my correction and felt no action was required at this time.
Do I have any chance of rebutting their decision? I did have the correct amount of RMD taken from my Vanguard account. In fact, I actually took an extra $2,000 out of the account. So, the amount still due to me is $1,043. To me it means a lot.
I appreciate your knowledge and hope this makes sense.

I’m not quite sure I understand your question. Did you receive a 1099-R from Vanguard, giving the total amount of RMDs taken (and taxes withheld if you elected that)?
Are you worried about having taken out too little — or having taken out more in RMDs than you reported?
Where does the $1,043 amount come from?? Why are you expecting a larger refund??
Either way, the IRS has reviewed your return — and you have their opinion in writing.
