Issues Changing my direct deposit account for Treasury Direct

By Terry Savage on September 12, 2025 | Chicken Money

Hi Terry, I want to change my Treasury direct account to stop buying I-Bonds and start buying T-bills, but the system will not let me change anything with the bank account and i am not sure how to switch to T-Bills. I have a $50 deposit every paycheck (bi-weekly) into Treasury direct. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

OK, I’m assuming you want to use the same bank — but change the purchases.
In that case, log into your TD account and click on “manage securities.”
There you can simply cancel your monthly purchase of Ibonds.
Then go to “buy” direct to start a purchase of 26 week T-bills. I’m pretty sure you’ll have to specify the individual purchases at the weekly auctions, and I don’t know how you can authorize an automatic monthly deduction.

Please write back with your phone number, and in the meantime, I’ll ask my contact if there is a way to set up automatic monthly purchases of T-bills.
