Rollover my 401K to an IRA

By Terry Savage on November 21, 2025 | Financial Planning / Retirement

Hello Terry,
I had asked you about taking my 401K money out of Vanguard at the recommendation of a friend. You basically said why since Vanguard is one of your recommended places for IRA rollovers.
You also said what I should do is a rollover from the 401K to an IRA.
Are you suggesting I do that with Vanguard? So don’t leave Vanguard but move the funds to an IRA?
I’m retiring in February of 2026 so I should move the funds to an IRA at that time?
Thank you.

Terry Says

Yes, just do a direct rollover to an IRA Rollover at Vanguard. It will all go into a money market mutual fund. Then you can make some conservative investment decisions about diversification. There is not tax involved if you do it this way.
