Pre-retirement planning
I’m 57 and my wife and I have $3 million in retirement savings. I have used your website to find an advisor but am starting to be concerned about paying 80 basis pts on my assets. Any books you’d recommend I read to take back the management and position me to retire in the next 5 years. Most of these assets are in pre-tax 401k/403b plans and I’d like to do some things to avoid taxes and healthcare penalties in the future.

Wait — where did you get the figure 80 basis points? That’s not any recommendation I ever made. Have you gone through the Wealthramp process? Please read this:

Let Pam match you with several fee-only FIDUCIARY advisors. Tell her your concerns about costs as she makes the match. There is no obligation after the first meeting to get an overview.
Then please write back and tell me about your experience. Good advice is always worth paying for — but an hourly fee might be more appropriate in your situation. You won’t know until you go through the process.
