Ask Terry Questions Retirement Planning

Retirement Planning

Terry:
I listen to you on WGN radio with John Williams and enjoy your sage advice and benefit from your thoughtful answers. My question is how can I overcome reluctance and some apprehension of contacting and going through the process with a fiduciary financial advisor of planning for retirement? I have done the management for financial planning and investing when I was single and for both of us since we were married. Every six months I update a spreadsheet with all of our accounts and go over it with my wife to make sure she is up to date in case something happens to me. Now as we near retirement age, I would like to have a skilled financial person review and give us some feedback on how we are doing as well as make suggestions for a plan. However giving a complete stranger knowledge of our investments makes me nervous. I have signed on to Wealthramp and identified three potential advisors but I am reluctant to move forward. Can you help me? Thanks.

Terry Says

Oh my goodness. If you had a lot of pain, and were recommended to three excellent specialists, would you hesitate to get their advice because you had to get undressed for an examination?!!

That’s the only comparison I can make. You’ve gone through the Wealthramp process. Now talk with one or two of the advisors, see which one you “like” and get going! Or you’re going to leave your wife a real mess. Remember, you don’t know what you don’t know! Get some trusted advice!

And please write back and tell me what happens!
