Social security payment after death
Hi Terry. My mom passed away on 03/12/26. Social security posted her March payment last week, and today they are withdrawing what they paid. We were told by the funeral home that we would receive the March payment. Is this true?

Yes, they take it back. A person receives no Social Security benefits for the month of their death. That means if the person died in July, the check or direct deposit received in August (which is payment for July) must be returned.
