Login.gov
You mentioned on wgn morning news on Wednesday, opening a login.gov was a pain. You’re not kidding. I had a friend come by to help me upload my driver’s license and take a photo. After many steps were completed..I was not able to get an account probably cause my credit is frozen and they pull info from credit reports to identify me. Nor would they give me a link to receive a bar code from SSA so I could go to my local post office and verify my identity there. Because I don’t want to unfreeze my credit..I tried to make an appointment at my local office on Washington Street to go there to verify my identity. Now they tell me there are no appointments available at the Chicago office and I’ve called quite a few times. I did this once before when I first received benefits 5 years ago and it took 2 minutes! The lady at SS gave me the local number 866/739-4765 to see if I can get an appointment that way. Any suggestions other than unfreezing my credit. I don’t want to do that. I’m glad it’s difficult in order to protect me but this is frustrating. I’d rather do login.gov opposed to ID.me, probably have the same issue anyway.
Thank you

Unfreeze your credit for two weeks! It’s easy to do online. And it will automatically re-freeze on the date you set.
