Ask Terry Questions TIPS in IRA

TIPS in IRA

By Terry Savage on April 19, 2026 | Investments

What is your current opinion on using TIPS in an IRA? It currently looks like 30
year TIP yields in the secondary market before inflation are near an all time high
(2.6%). I am thinking about further reducing my exposure to equities in my IRA. I
am 70 years old and the makeup of my current portfolio is as follows:
Taxable holdings: 68% (65% equities)
IRA holdings: 21% (50% equities)
Roth holdings: 11% (50% equities)

Not a bad idea. For everything you need to know about TIPS these days, please use this link to Larry Kotlikoff’s substack post on the subject. He’s a fan of TIPS.
