Social security benefits application
Hi Terry. I have been trying for over a week to apply for my SSA benefits. I turn 70 in October. After signing in and being verified I get a message saying connection closed, we cannot process your request at this time. I have tried on Safari, Google and Chrome with the same result. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Have you made an appointment at your local SocialSecurity office? Do so immediately. You may have to drive to a suburban office as they seem better staffed than in most cities. And all SS staff is reduced.
And have you created a “my Social Security” account online? Here’s the link to do that:

And remember to have your bank routing number, and proof of identity with you when you visit in person, or when you go through the ID.me process to open that account.
