Social Security strategy

By Terry Savage on August 10, 2026 | Social Security

A married couple both the same age with only one that works and is entitled to SS. The other one is entitled to a spousal benefit. The break even point is 50% longer in total dollars for the couple. So 67 seems the better choice instead of waiting until 70.

It is NOT about breakeven!! Please read one of my many articles on this subject!

Couple of things to consider. If you die first, your spouse gets your enhanced Social Security benefit. And if you run out of money because you live longer than average, you’ll be glad to have a larger SS check, on which future inflation adjustments are made.
