10,200.00 deduction for unemployment compensation.

By Terry Savage on December 20, 2021 | Wild Card

I filed my federal return in February prior to the IRS allowing the deduction. I am told not to file A amended return and the IRS would re compute the tax I owe or refund due. It is now mid December and I have not heard from the IRS. When I file my 2021 return should I also file amended return for 2020 if I have not heard from the IRS? Is there someplace within the IRS where I can check on this?

Terry Says

No, you’ll never have to file an amended return. They will get around to giving your money back. And if they haven’t done so by the time filing opens next February, there will surely be a line on the 2021 return where you can claim that refund. Meanwhile, be patient!
