2019 Tax Return Refile? Help

By Terry Savage on December 23, 2021 | Taxes & Economy

My 2019 tax return has still not been processed. I can’t get through on the phone with the IRS. I had to mail in my 2019 tax return, because for some reason I couldn’t e-file it. Of course, my check was cashed for taxes owed, and that payment is on my 2019 tax transcript. Should I refile my return? Help!

Terry Says

If your check was cashed, it means they have your return and processed it. They don’t send a letter saying it was processed. And there is no need to re-file. Your cancelled check is proof that they do have your return.
But what about your 2020 return that was due last April, nearly a year ago? I hope you sent that one in too — because they WILL charge penalties if you didn’t file and owe money!
And get ready to file your 2021 return in March this year!

Remember if you mail anything to the IRS you must always do it certified mail, return receipt requested.
