300 to 400 extension for unemployment benefits

By Terry Savage on August 25, 2020 | Wild Card

Hi Terry, My understanding is that Gov Pritzker has NOT applied for $300 to 400 in Pres. Trump’s ExecOrder while nearly 40 other states have for their unemployed people to help them pay bills/mortgage, etc. Do you know WHY he is not willing to provide help to unemployed Illinoisans?

Unfortunately, we don’t have Pritzker slush fund fortune money to rely on. I look forward to your input and…love your segments on WGN radio. Thank you,

So far only 8 states have applied to give the extra $100 to get the $300 match. That’s the way the disaster fund works — and it doesn’t have a lot of money. Given the latest fires in California, there won’t be much left for unemployment money! It was political grandstanding on the President’s part when he made the announcement.
You know I remain resolutely a-political on this blog — but I always tell the Savage Truth.
And while I’m at it, the Governor just earmarked $130 million from the original Cares Act money for both rental and mortgage assistance. To learn more go to www.IHDA.org — Many Illinois residents are benefiting from $5,000 in rental assistance and up to $15,000 in mortgage assistance!
