401K

By Terry Savage on September 30, 2024 | Financial Planning / Retirement

Hi, I was let go from a job after 41 years. I have a small 401k and, probably should move it and would appreciate some pointers or suggestions on a fiduciary advisor or firm please.

Let’s make this easy. First, read this article: https://www.terrysavage.com/rollover-now/
It will give you complete instructions.

Once you get your plan directly rolled over to an IRA Rollover account, you’ll have to decide on some investments. At this stage of your life, I’d recommend half in a Treasury money market account, and half in an equity/income fund. You’ll need some growth to offset inflation, but at this point you want to cut your risk down.

And just because you lost this job, don’t give up on the idea of finding new work, and earning money (maybe less) doing something you love to do, and where you can help others.
