401K

By Terry Savage on January 11, 2026 |

HELLO,
I WILL BE 72 ON 2/4/2026. I STILL WORK FULL TIME AS AN AUTO TECHNICIAN AT CARMAX IN NAPERVILLE., ILL. I HAVE A 401K WITH CARMAX/T.ROWE PRICE. I AM VERY WORRIED THAT THE BOTTOM COULD FALL OUT OF MY 401K DUE TO CURRENT WHITE HOUSE POLICIES. CAN I TAKE THE TOTAL 401K BALANCE, WITH NO TAX PENALTY, PUT IT INTO A SAVINGS TYPE INVESTMENT WITH NO RISK, BUT BE ABLE TO WITHDRAW FUNDS WHEN I DO RETIRE?
THANK YOU TERRY,

Terry Says

OK, as long as you’re still working there you can’t “roll over” your 40lk to an IRA. So you have to look INSIDE your 40l(k) plan to find the safest investment option.

It will likely be either a stable value fund, or a very short-term bond fund. Ask your T.Rowe Price representative to help you move half your money into something like this.

If you still have questions, and cant get advice from TRP, please contact me, and I’ll help you sort it out.
