403(b)

I see advice often from you in the newspaper about 401(k)s. My question is: Is the same advice and guidance you provide for 401(k)s the same as for 403(b)s. I am a public school teacher with a 403(b) along with enrollment in my State Teachers Retirement System.

Generally speaking, yes. My advice on these retirement plans is to stay diversified, and become more conservative as you near retirement. And then at retirement to do a rollover to an IRA (unless your plan offers some very attractive and unique investment options). An IRA rollover allows you a wider variety of conservative choices than most 40lk or 403b plans, which are geared to building retirement assets.
