Any Limit on Part-Time Job Earnings While on SS?

By Terry Savage on May 16, 2025 | Social Security

I am going to file for my SS benefits between my current age of 68 and 70. SS benefits will be a supplement to my public school educator pension. (Relatedly, thank you for your hard work in getting the SS Fairness Act passed!) Currently, I work part-time for a local vet clinic. I’ve searched the SS site, and though it’s not perfectly clear, my understanding is that there is no limit on how much I can earn while collecting SS benefits, as long as I am of full retirement age (66.6 in my case). Please confirm that my understanding is correct. Thank you.

Yes, you are correct. Once you reach full retirement age, there is no income earnings limit. Keep earning as much as possible for as long as possible! The income is added to your SS and any other income, and you’ll pay taxes. If you earn between $25,000 and $34,000 on a single return, up to 50% of your SS may be taxable.

But it’s far better to have more income to live on and to save, so please don’t worry about the taxes!!
