Ask Terry Questions Back taxes

Back taxes

By Terry Savage on September 22, 2022 | Taxes & Economy

I owe the IRS 14k in back taxes. I do not own a business. I’m retired and a widow and unbeknownst to me, I was not getting enough taxes taken out. Would I be better off trying to strike a compromise with the feds or trying to hire a tax relief firm? Thank you!

I think you should first try the IRS taxpayer advocate office. Here is a link to that page on the IRS website. It will give you the nearest local office. If you can’t get through, please write back to me. I know this must be scary. I will personally recommend a service if you can’t do this yourself.
