Ask Terry Questions bookkeeping software

bookkeeping software

By Terry Savage on October 22, 2025 | Financial Planning / Retirement

I used QuickBooks for 25+ years when my husband & I had rentals and a small business. Now, we are retired. I like to balance our checkbooks and keep track of medical expenses, interest and tax payments with bookkeeping software; plus be able to print out reports for our accountant. At $1,000+ a year QB is far too expensive. Do you have suggestions for a software program. I use an external hard drive so I have no real need for cloud-based storage (I’d like to eliminate the subscription costs.) Thank you so much for your straight-on no-nonsense weekly advice on WGN.

You should move over to Simplifi by Quicken
I think you’ll enjoy that!

And everything is backed up in the cloud these days. It happens automatically. You’ll want to make sure to do that!
