Capital Gains on Home in Wife’s Trust

By Terry Savage on January 06, 2026 | Housing / Real Estate

Hi Terry. I submitted a question about a week ago but haven’t seen your response. It had to do with capital gains exclusion if house in my wife’s trust.

I never received that question. But the capital gains tax exclusion is $500,000 if you’re married, filing jointly — even if the house is in her name, or the name of her RLT (which uses her SS number).
