Cashing Savings Bonds
Went to cash a matured US Bond at our U.S.Bank,we were told they no longer cashed them due to an influx of counterfeit bonds. We were told to go on-line to get a form from Treasury Direct to send in. We did that and found the form requests SS#,Bank account #and Bank Routing #,also signature guarantee if bond over $1000. We are uncomfortable putting all that information in the mail.

Yes, this is what you must do now. So send the letter by registered mail, return receipt requested. The proceeds will be deposited directly into your bank account.
