Certificate of Deposits

By Terry Savage on September 28, 2026 | Chicken Money

I have 3 CD’s each worth over $70,000. I am a widow and am collecting SS and 2 pensions from my husband. I have a “good” annuity that was set up when he died which I am drawing from. Should I buy Treasury bonds or be doing something else with the CDs? I am 67 so I do not want alot of risk

Terry Says

Just leave your money in 6-month CDs at your bank. They should be paying a bit over 3%. If they are not, demand a higher rate. And if your bank doesn’t offer that, please write back and I’ll show you how to open a government money market fund at Fidelity.
PS If your bank isn’t paying over 3.25% on a 6-month CD, show them this answer, and let them know I’ll be mentioning them specifically on radio as the stingiest bank in town!
