Changing Credit Cards vs FICO score

By Terry Savage on December 31, 2022 |

I have more credit open than I will ever use. Pay it off monthly. No mortgage or. car loan. I want to close two of my cards and open others that give me better rewards. Will this significantly/permanently affect my FICO?

Terry Says

Keep your longest-held card — even if you don’t use it. In fact, use it once a month and pay it off in full and on time each month. That will offset the impact from closing other cards. Longevity of credit history is a major plus in your FICO score.
