checking account fraud
Dear Terry: I have been quite ill for the past year and just noticed that I have fraud charges for Uber eats, Uber rides and a casino all small charges and have assumed at a glance it was me and my children. The charges are all on my debit/checking account. What happens…This is a long time checking account number. Is there a way to recoup the money through the bank. Contact FBI?
Terry Says
Definitely contact your bank immediately and ask them to initiate a fraud investigation. They will most likely close this account and open a new one for you, with a new debit card.
For sure, they are going to ask if you know who could possible have used your card. So contact Uber and get the exact charges that you are disputing — pick up location, and destination –and delivery destination for any deliveries. That will help you — and them — understand whether they will consider this “negligence” on your part, or outright fraud.
You’ll need to explain your illness, and why you were unable to check your account regularly for unauthorized charges.
