Ask Terry Questions Child credit

Child credit

By Terry Savage on April 06, 2022 | Social Security

My daughter and 2 grandsons moved in with us over 4 yrs ago after her husband died. We claimed the grand kids on our return while they lived here. My daughter does not work. She is 35 now the kids are 51/2 & 41/2 now. Last year we received the child care cash of $600 each month. My daughter moved out in September and requested we give her the whole $3600 to her because we only got it because of her kids. Now she said we have to claim the kids again because the government is going to give us another $3600 in our return. Of she said we should give this money to her as well. Is this correct about get $3600 back in our return?

For 2021 each dependent under the age of 6 at year end is “worth” $3600. Some advance payments were made between July — December. Did she receive these? If not she should file a tax return (even if she didn’t make much money) and claim the children as dependents and claim the child tax credit.
