Credit Report of deceased
My husband passed away 7 years ago. How long do the credit agencies keep credit reports open for the deceased? A letter came addressed to him from the IDES stating he was eligible to collect because he lost his job. This is a fradulant claim and I have reported this to the necessary agencies. I asked this question a week ago and can’t find an answer anywhere on your website or in my email.
Also, please do everything in this article for both your SS number and that of your deceased spouse.

You should contact each of the credit bureaus, (see links in this article) and ask them if they require a copy of the death certificate to close out the account, and also report that it has been the target of identity theft fraud. If they do require a death certificate and written letter, which is possible, ask what address you are supposed to use, because you are planning to send it by certified mail, signature and return receipt requested. If you run into a problem, please let me know because this would make a great story!
Oh, and if there are any open accounts in his name, close them with the merchant –also using the same process — And make sure his name is removed from any of YOUR credit accounts. Leaving his name on open accounts perpetuates his credit report!
